The English Church Heidelberg
Part of the Anglican Diocese in Europe

Welcome to The English Church Heidelberg

We are an English-speaking Christian community in the heart of this beautiful city. We belong to the Diocese in Europe (Church of England), a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Every Sunday we come together at the Erlöserkirche (Church of the Redeemer) at Plöck 44 (Heidelberg Old Town, corner of Plöck and Schießtorstraße) for a service of Holy Communion or (0ccasionally) Morning Prayer.

As part of the Church of England we are celebrating at this time the life of Queen Elizabeth II:

*Gracious God, we give thanks for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth, for her faith and her dedication to duty. Bless our nation as we mourn her death and may her example continue to inspire us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*From the Church of England website.

We welcome you to “Come and See!” (John 1, 46)
On most Sundays the service is at 12 noon. Regular exceptions are the 2nd Sunday of the month, Christmas and Palm Sunday when it is at 10:30. There are occasional exceptions to these hours, so if you are unsure, it is good to check current services in advance.

All generations are welcome at our services. There is a children’s corner at the back of the church with cushions, children’s Bibles, soft toys and colouring materials. Young Church is offered for ages 3-11 on occasion during the second half of the service. The church building is not fully barrier-free, as there are two small steps at the entrance. However, wheelchair users are always welcome and will find helpers ready to assist them into the church. Email a church warden to let them know you will be attending the service and we can better serve your requests.

We welcome not only Anglicans but all who would like to worship God in English, explore and nurture their faith and meet other Christians. After the service there is opportunity to get to know each other while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

Many are with us just for a short time, others are long-term residents in this city and region. We come from different continents and countries, different cultures and traditions, and enjoy the diversity this brings to our church.

It is a priority in the Church of England to ensure that all children, young people and adults in our congregation and community are safe and welcome. To assist with this each congregation has a Safeguarding Officer. Ours is Churchwarden Petrina Ratty, Tel. 06222 52748. The Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) for the Diocese in Europe is Grace Fagan: grace.fagan@churchofengland.org Tel. +44(0)0207 898 1163; Mobile +44(O) 7245 536 259.For more information see the Safeguarding Page.
