Welcome to The English Church Heidelberg
We are an English-speaking Christian community in the heart of this beautiful city. We belong to the Diocese in Europe (Church of England), which in turn is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Every Sunday we come together at the Erlöserkirche (Church of the Redeemer) at Plöck 44 (Heidelberg Old Town, corner of Plöck and Schießtorstraße) for a service of Holy Communion or (0ccasionally) Morning Prayer.
We welcome not only Anglicans but all who would like to worship God in English, explore and nurture their faith and meet other Christians. After the service there is opportunity to get to know each other. Due to Corona restrictions we cannot serve coffee, but invite all attendees to gather outside the church doors for fellowship after the service.
Many are with us just for a short time, others are long-term residents in this city and region. We come from different continents and countries, different cultures and traditions, and enjoy the diversity this brings to our church.
It is a priority in the Church of England to ensure that all children, young people and adults in our congregation and community are safe and welcome. To assist with this each congregation has a Safeguarding Officer. Ours is Churchwarden Petrina Ratty, Tel. 06222 52748. The Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) for the Diocese in Europe is Grace Fagan: firstname.lastname@example.org Tel. +44(0)0207 898 1163; Mobile +44(O) 7245 536 259.
The church building is not fully barrier-free, as there are two small steps at the entrance. However, wheelchair users are always welcome and will find helpers ready to assist them into the church. Email a church warden to let them know you will be attending the service and we can better serve your requests.
We welcome you to “Come and See!” (John 1, 46)
Our next two Services will be on Sept. 26th and Oct. 3rd, both at 12 Noon. On Sept. 26th we will celebrate Holy Communion with the Rev. Douglas Robinson. October 3rd will be the licensing and welcoming ceremony for our new chaplain, Rev. Canon John Newsome. He will be licensed by our Archdeacon, The Venerable Dr. Leslie Nathaniel. More details about this service will be found on the website soon.
Those who would like to attend will need to register with the churchwarden Yarley Matzdorf (see church leaders page).
